Over the past year, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jana and Amy from Hawthorne & Poppy Events to bring this magical, magenta wedding to life. I’m so excited to get to share all of the details!
Jana & Amy came to me in the spring of 2022, and from the first call, I could tell we were going to have so much fun together!! Jana let me know that she loved all things pink. She and Phil were looking forward to planning a wedding that was a joy-filled experience for their guests from start to finish, and the truly felt personal to them and each of their families.
As we started on wedding invitations, we had priorities of formal but modern design, LOTS of color, and some fun, personal elements. Jana let me know that she wanted a custom toile pattern with different items and locations from her and Phil’s story. I created their design board from the feedback in our first call. It was full of many shades of pink including a deep magenta, some modern and some more formal font options, and editorial vibes. Moodboards are one of my favorite parts of our process. They set the tone going forward, and give a good feel for the overall goals of our designs.
I have to say, these invites turned out so good. I absolutely loved creating multiple cards for each of their events. For each separate event, I was able to tie in fun details specific to each venue on those cards. The bold colors, gorgeous letterpress on the main card, and editorial-style fonts brought this suite together to give that modern, fun, but formal look Jana was looking for. We also wanted to prioritize the opening experience for guests, so we made sure the cards were stacked to form an ombré of pinks and violets and tied the whole suite together with the most beautiful hand-dyed silk ribbon. The envelope was finished with a hint of their custom toile on the liner, white ink addressing, and fun postage stamps.
For the rehearsal dinner, which we lovingly dubbed the “nearest and dearest dinner”, we were able to start right away with the pink and magenta vibes. We created a fun ombré seating chart, table menus, and bar menus to compliment the aesthetics of ATX Cocina. We kept a little touch of the ombré from the invites running through the bar menus which was a sweet touch towards their all-over branding!
For their wedding day, we turned the pink up to 11! We had a small touch of personalization with the ceremony programs for St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral. Once guests arrived at Wish Well House for the reception, though, the entire space had been transformed into a celebration of Jana and Phil. We created a custom Austin Map for guests to sign, a welcome sign complete with their custom toile pattern.
A sweet and simple touch that we added for personal elements of Jana and Phil’s day included an invitation linen keepsake box and custom gift wrap, welcome bag cards, tissue paper, and shadow box gifts of their invitation suites for their parents. I loved that they thought of this addition to help everyone remember the details of their wedding day.
For their seating chart, we incorporated Phil’s DJ background. Each guest had a CD case “escort card” with their name and table on the spine, and a custom “cd” card with a QR code to a custom playlist Phil created just for their wedding. We also brought in their pup, Lexington for fun on the CD print! Later in the night, we transformed the seating chart to be a 90’s themed candy bar, complete with LED backlighting!
Inside the reception space, we covered one of Wish Well’s walls in a 21-foot bar backdrop installation, featuring a fun “adlib” of Phil & Jana’s love story, bookended with layered fabric bar menu installs.
Table setting details included ombré booklet menus, with a key to each of the toile illustrations, Lexington (their dog) themed vellum place cards, custom printed toile takeout boxes, and some neutral taupe and white table numbers to tie into the table linens.
To tie in the wedding branding throughout the remainder of the space, we also custom-wrapped the DJ facade, added a vinyl monogram to the bar fronts, and created a frosé bar menu.
This epic pink wedding will forever be a favorite. And Jana & Phil are now forever friends as well!!
Going into wedding planning, I knew that the invitations, paper products, and signage were one of our top priorities. We wanted a personalized wedding and knew that through this category we’d be able to do just that. We wanted to tell our story and share “us” with everyone gathered at the reception. Those goals were achieved through Megan and Owl & Envelope’s work. We are so grateful that we had such an incredible creative partner in Megan who was up for a wild ride as we added new pieces; changed our minds; and really tested her personalized we could get each piece. She embraced our color story, our modern design aesthetic, and our love of our pup Lexington! We feel so blessed to have worked with Megan and would recommend her to anyone without hesitation!
